Grandma's 75th

The reason that I haven't posted anything for the last few weeks is that I have been in hell. Well not actually, but it was pretty dicey there for awhile.

My Grandma's 75th birthday was coming up, and back in December we decided to throw her a surprise party. We sent out invitations to family and old friends all over the place, and hoped that everyone would come. We tried to divvy up the work load, but it still would up being a huge undertaking for all of us.

Somehow I wound up being in charge of decorations, and so I have been sewing tablecloths and making centerpieces for what seems like weeks, but was really only 4 days.

Loved ones traveled from far and near to be here, and I hope I am half so loved when I am her age.

I am so grateful for my Grandma. She really is my second mom. She has taught me to stand up for what is right and that family is everything. She puts Heavenly Father first and doesn't believe in doing a half-baked job. Grandma is fiercely loyal, and doesn't tolerate crap from anyone. I'm so glad that she is mine and that I have had the privilege of learning at her knee.

Now that I've said all the sweet things I have decided that I really am going to Hell because of all the lies I have told in the last few weeks. Trying to keep her from figuring out what I have been up to has been more than a little difficult. Fortunately, the secret held and she was totally surprised.

The Deer

We have this herd of deer that live in the pastures by our home. Every evening around twilight they seem to congregate in the meadow, as if they know that they are safe in the town limits. There are several fawns, and does (sp?) , but no bucks that we have been able to see. One evening the boys and I sat counting them, and there are over 20. We also got to see them run single file and jump the fences in the pasture. The surrounding horses and cattle don't seem to be bothered by them either.

Just one more reason I'm glad I'm a country girl.

Rain-Gutter Regatta

Alec's scout den had it's rain-gutter regatta last week and we had so much fun. Last year's Pinewood Derby was a little bit of a disaster for our family, and I was so relieved to be doing boats this year. You see, last year, we let Alec do most of the planning for his car, and Rodger, having never been a scout didn't realize what lengths some Dad's go to, to help their boys win. So Alec's car was very slow compared to the other cars, and didn't win a single race.

Fortunately this year we had boats. Alec loved his little blue boat, and won several races with it! All is well with the world when you get to win a few races.

We love our scout leaders who work so hard to make scouting fun for the boys!

Easter Eggstravaganza

For Easter this year we went to the annual Hall family dinner, but with a twist. This year Buzz and Sandy hosted the picnic instead of Grandma because they have family staying with them and their house was better for all the kids to run around. My kids were so excited to have other children to do their egg hunt with. I just have to say how happy I am that Garrett and Laurie have moved here! Their kids are so cute, and my boys think they are so fun to play with. We were also happy that Trevor and Clea were here with their darling girls too. Laurie and I split egg stuffing duty, so the 300 eggs were done in no time. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE cousins!








We colored these eggs the week before Easter, and they are still sitting in my refrigerator. Seriously, how many egg salad sandwiches can you eat?
