I realize that I haven't posted in forever, but I just can't seem to find the time anymore. I have had major changes in my life over the last several months, and time is something that I have lost in the mix.
The first major change was the boys starting at the Alpine School. Alpine Elementary is a little school in Alpine AZ, about 30 minutes from here. The school is a K-8 school with less than 100 students. Dean is in the 3rd grade and there are only 11 kids in his class (4th and 3rd combined). Alec is in 5th grade, and there are 16 kids in his class (5th and 6th combined). I love the small school and the fact that all the kids know each other and are friends. I am finally confident that the boys are getting the attention and instruction that they need. Alpine is the only school in the White Mountains that is exceeding state standards. They also play sports in a league with other small schools in the region. We played flag football for the first few months, and now we are on to basketball. You would think that with the boys gone to school that I would have lots of extra time, but with travel and after-school practices, driving eats up a ton of time.
The second change is that I started working. I have had the privilege of being home with the boys for the last 11 years, and Rodger has sacrificed mightily to make that happen. When I found out that the boys were accepted I decided it was time for me to do something out of the home. Now I have to back up a bit to explain how this came about. Last fall I injured my right ankle (basically the same thing I did to the left ankle 5 years ago), and so I started back to physical therapy. I found a great clinic here in town, and after all the physical therapy I've had over the years I can honestly say that they are the best! The PT there is Steven Kempton, and he's a rockstar, after 1 visit my mobility increased 100%. I wound up being a patient there for around 6 months and really enjoyed my time there. My therapy was wrapping up just as I found out that the boys would be starting school in Alpine in the fall. One day Steven asked if I knew anyone that might be looking for a job, and "ME" just popped out of my mouth. I really hadn't considered working, but when things fall into my lap I do try to pay attention. So I've been there since July, and I love it! I only work 3 days a week, and I find the work rewarding and interesting. I also decided that I want to become a PTA (physical therapy assistant). fortunately the pre-req's for PTA school are very similar to those for Nursing, and so my credits aren't all wasted. The problem is finding time to go back to school. I'm just happy that I found a career in the health care industry that doesn't involve blood, guts, or poop!
Finally I got a new calling. I still can't even believe I'm going to post it on here because that will make it more real, and I am still in denial. I have been called as the 2nd counselor in the RS presidency. This is total payback for never attending any RS activity and thinking that RS is for old women. So now I have to try to come up with activities for all the women with no idea how it's all supposed to go......Ok I'm done talking about it, I can already feel my blood pressure going up.
So you can see, I have no time. My house is a wreck and has been for about 3 months now. Rodger is an angel. He cooks, he cleans, and he picks up the kids. I couldn't do it without him. I am hoping at some point I am going to learn to manage my life better.
